Family Research and Demographic Analysis (FReDA): Evolution, Framework, Objectives, and Design of “The German Family-Demographic Panel Study”

This article introduces the evolution, framework, objectives, and design of new data infrastructure “FReDA – The German Family-Demographic Panel Study”, which has been funded by Federal Ministry Education Research (BMBF) since 2020. FReDA is rooted in Generation Gender Survey (GGS) Family (pairfam). was initiated to facilitate research on family demography providing a comprehensive panel study allowing for international comparisons as well dyadic analyses through multi-actor design. survey covers major fields research, such fertility behaviour, reproductive health, work-family conflict, division work, gender roles, intimate relations, separation divorce, parenting intergenerational social inequalities, attitudes, well-being. interviews are conducted self-administered web-based (CAWI) or paper-based (PAPI) manner. consists two different samples. First, FReDA-GGS started early 2021, with wave 1 population individuals aged 18 49 years their partners. Second, FReDA-pairfam will continue 14-wave pairfam sample from 2022 onwards. questionnaires both samples be harmonised evolves.
